Forgiveness

Homework for our series "Practicing: Forgiveness"

Practicing Forgiveness

If we’re honest, forgiveness is one of the most countercultural Practices of Jesus. By definition, forgiveness is an unmerited gift – it is given to someone who does not deserve it. The cost of forgiveness is great, but the outcome in the lives of those who forgive is greater still. Through the process of forgiving and being forgiven, we can experience freedom, wholeness, and intimacy with God and others, all of which is part of life as Jesus intended.

PRACTICING FORGIVENESS

WEEK 1: NOVEMBER 7

Rewatch Practicing Forgiveness Week 1 (click here)

For this week’s Practice, we want to reflect on the gift of God’s forgiveness and how it leads us to forgive others.

Read through Luke 7: 36-50

Think about the following questions:

·         What parts of the Pharisee’s attitude do you relate to?

·         What is so compelling about the way that Jesus interacts with this woman?

·         How have you seen the correlation between forgiveness and love in your own life?

PRACTICING FORGIVENESS

WEEK 2: NOVEMBER 14

Rewatch Practicing Forgiveness Week 2

For this week’s Practice, we want to reflect on the gift of God’s forgiveness and how it leads us to forgive ourselves.

Read John 13:36-38, John 18:15-27 and John 21:15-17

Think about the following questions:

• Is it easier for you to forgive yourself or other people?

• Think about a time when you felt guilty. How did that guilt affect you?

• Why do you think it’s so hard to forgive ourselves when we’ve messed up? What can you do to start forgiving yourself this week?

PRACTICING FORGIVENESS

WEEK 3: NOVEMBER 21

Rewatch Practicing Forgiveness: Week 3

For the final week in our Practicing: Forgiveness series, we want to consider the act of forgiveness and the role of reconciliation.

This week, pause and pray two things:

Ask God to show you somewhere where you need to ask forgiveness.

Ask God to show you someone you need to forgive.

Do both.

As we wrap up our series we encourage you to continue putting into practice what we’ve learned each week. Ask God to show you somewhere you need to forgive yourself, and to accept His forgiveness.
