CONNECT articles are due tomorrow, Monday, January 31st. If you have anything for the February issue of CONNECT, please send all submissions via email to connect@lewisvillebaptistchurch.com.

Directory Updates
The quarterly directory update is available today. Pick one up at Connections Corner.

Annual Reports
Annual Reports for 2010 are now available.  Pick up your copy at Connections Corner.  Please take only one per household.

Sacred Rhythms
We’re inviting you to an event called, “How is it with Your Soul?” tonight at 6:30pm.  This will be an evening to take a look at our spiritual lives and take a bit of inventory.  Pastor Gord will be guiding us through a process using a book by Ruth Haley Barton (spoke at “Oasis” (Baptist Convention) this summer) called “Sacred Rhythms”. If you’re interested in digging deeper and pursuing this idea of spiritual transformation you need to be there! You’ve heard Pastor Gord talk about the impact Ms. Barton’s talks, books and resources have had on his journey, now it’s your turn! This evening event will serve as a preview and kick-off of sorts to an evening class/group we’ll be holding on Sundays starting February 20th at 6:30pm. Led by  Pastor Gord, this group will be going through the “Sacred Rhythms” book together and digging into what it means to have our lives arranged for  spiritual transformation. So join us tonight and mark your calendars for the group starting February 20!

Annual Business Meeting
The Annual Business Meeting will be held on Monday, January 31st at 7pm.  All members are encouraged to attend.

Goldtimers
Our first quarterly get-together of 2011 will take place on Thursday, February 10th at 12:30pm. This meeting will feature music by Dennis & Diane Bustin. Our pastor will of course be on hand to share jokes and inspirational thoughts. The meal this time will be ham & hashbrown casserole with a yummy dessert. The cost will be $10.  Please feel free to come along and of course invite a friend. If you plan to attend please speak to Peggy Atkinson or Norris Parlee to reserve your seat.  See you there!

Membership Class
If you are interested in participating in our Membership Class, please sign up at Connections Café. We will be holding a Membership Class the 4th Monday of every month. Our next class will be on Monday, February 28th at 6:30pm.

Giant Yard Sale
Our 5th Annual Giant Yard Sale & Bake Sale will be held Saturday, March 12th from 8am to 2pm.  Donations can be dropped off at the church the week of March 7th-11th between the hours of 9am-4:30pm and 6-8pm. PLEASE, NO CLOTHING ITEMS! If you have large items to donate but need them picked up, please call the church office at 853-7552 to make arrangements. Donations of baked goods are also required for the Bake Sale table. Volunteers are needed before, during and after the Yard Sale.  Sign up at Connections Corner!

Alpha

An Alpha group, led by Lloyd & Maria Taylor, will be starting up very soon—Sunday, February 6th to be exact!  If you’ve never heard of Alpha or aren’t sure what it’s all about, here’s the scoop:  Alpha is an opportunity to explore the  meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting.  The Alpha course meets once a week, for 10 weeks.  Each session includes:  a meal, an intriguing talk (often on video), small group discussion, and a getaway halfway through the course.

At each session, people enjoy great food, laughter and learning in a fun and friendly atmosphere where no question about life or God is seen as too simple or too hostile… questions like:  Is there a God?  Why am I here?  Where did I come from?  Where am I going?  What came first, the chicken or the egg?

Alpha is a safe place to explore these things and ask your questions while journeying alongside others who have some of the same questions.  If you or someone you know would like to participate in our Alpha group starting February 6th at 5pm, you can sign up at Connections Café after the service, or contact the church office at any time.

Thank You
Thank you to everyone  at Lewisville for all the prayers, cards & Facebook notes of encouragements after the sudden loss of my Dad. I am thankful for all who came to the visitation and to the funeral. Also, many thanks to those who made phone calls after the storm surge who were willing to get their feet wet and help out.  Once again you allowed Christ’s love to shine through all of your lives by giving, caring and sharing.  We are so blessed to be a part of a church family whose members always step up when there is a need!  We love you all.
